Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah
Former Chief Justice of India and
Chairman, Institute Of Directors

Dear All,

I have pleasure in inviting you to the IOD’s Silver Jubliee Function & '17 World Congress on Environment Management' scheduled to be held on 10 -11 July, 2015 in New Delhi, India. The theme of the Congress is ‘Environmental Governance – Transition to a Green Economy’.

This Convention is being organized at a crucial stage when Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new government is putting National Growth in an operational shape, by simplifying governance including environmental laws and clearances. At the same time, development of Post 2015 Sustainable Development Agenda of the UN is under finalization. Businesses and the civil society have been looking up, both at the UN as well as the Government of India, to play an important role in ensuring environmentally sound inclusive growth agenda, through the route of sustainability. Eradication of poverty is now regarded an integral part of environmental sustainability agenda.

Also, this year the Institute of Directors (IOD), India is celebrating its Silver Jubilee- 25th Year. During these momentous years, it is proud to have made it’s mark in the Indian corporate landscape and now increasingly global in many ways. During these momentous years, it has worked tirelessly to raise the quality of Corporate Boardrooms, and trained both executive and independent directors for their professional and legal knowledge, skills, business ethics and equips them effectively to lead their organizations and to meet the challenges of Competitive Globalization.

To commemorate the completion of 25 glorious years of the IOD, a special evening has been planned on 10th July at the same venue.

An ever increasing number of companies and other organizations want to make their operations sustainable, and environmentally sound. They have realized that such an approach offers an opportunity for growth, and should not be looked upon as cost to the company. Expectations that long term profitability should go hand-in-hand, with social justice and protect the environment, are gaining ground. These expectations are only set to increase and intensify, as the need to move to a truly sustainable economy is understood by companies, policy makers, financiers, customers, opinion makers and other stakeholders.

The emerging idea of integrating strategic sustainability-related information with other performance data is a significant and positive development. The World Congress on Environment Management will be addressed by business leaders, policy makers, sustainability experts, environmental professionals, management experts, academicians and NGOs. It will provide an ideal opportunity for networking and brain storming with various stakeholders.

I look forward to welcome you at the IOD Silver Jubilee function and 17th World Congress on Environment Management, on 10 -11 July, 2015 at Hotel Le-Meridian, New Delhi.

Yours sincerely,

Justice M.N.Venkatchaliah
